The province of Cuenca where the Natural Park of La Serrania de Cuenca is located, has the second largest forest area in Spain, with nearly 74,000 hectares of protected territory.

There are a total of 15 natural areas recognized with different levels of protection: El Parque Cinegético Experimental de El Hosquillo, la Laguna del Hito, las Lagunas de Cañada, la Laguna del Marquesado, el Nacimiento del Río Cuervo, la Hoz de Beteta, las Hoces del Cabriel, la Laguna de Talayuelas, las Torcas de Lagunaseca, el Complejo Lagunar de Manjavacas, Los Palancares y Tierra Muerta, el Complejo Lagunar de Arcas, la Serrezuela de Valsalobre, Muela Pinilla y el Puntal, and also the aforementioned Natural Park. Most of these are either lagoons or river gorges.
